NIHR SRMRC research team get muddy for critically ill patients

Twelve members from the National Institute of Health Research Surgical Reconstruction Microbiology Research Centre at QEHB are taking part in the X-Runner Wild Mud Run in April to raise money for critically ill patients at the hospital.
The team, made up of nurses, doctors and administrators, will be faced with the muddiest event in the world and will have to do a 10k trail over sixty challenging obstacles. The challenge will take them through mud, water, tunnels, hurdles, tightropes and many more!
Previously the team have taken part in other challenges including the Intensive Care Society Snowdon Xtreme Challenge which involved climbing Mount Snowdon, kayaking across Llyn Gwyant and then finishing the trek with a 28 mile cycle! They have also taken part in the Jurassic Coast Challenge which put the team through trekking along the Jurassic Coast over three days, and walking 24 miles across the Yorkshire Three Peaks in the Pennine range in under 12 hours!
Even though it is not the first challenge the team have taken on, they are still hoping to raise as much money as they can for the critically ill patients that they treat every day.
Talking about the challenge, Ronald Carrera, Research Nurse, NIHR SRMRC, said: “The Research Team are really excited to take on the Wild Mud Run and raise lots of money for QEHB Charity to help patients across the hospital.
“Teamwork is really important in our job and this challenge is definitely going to bring us closer, everyone from the department is getting involved. We hope this will be one of many charity events we take part in this year and we can help contribute to the amazing work that QEHB Charity does.
“We are all training together and we will finish the challenge together.”
