Liesl worked at Southend General Hospital for ten years in emergency decision and high dependency units before gaining an MSc in Adult Nursing. She was inspired to join the Critical Care team at the QE after visiting a friend who had been repatriated from Afghanistan and spent a year on the burns and trauma critical care unit. She then spent a further three years on the cardiac critical care unit looking after some of the QE’s sickest patients. Seeking a role with a capacity for innovation, she joined the NIHR SRMRC as a research nurse in early 2017. Her goal is to help motivate, educate and develop clinical staff in the benefits of research and facilitate its integration into everyday practice.
Liesl is a Band 6 research nurse for NIHR SRMRC. She currently leads on 2 burns studies, runs research awareness teaching for the research link nurse role in each of our specialities, helps to recruit patients to our diverse range of studies and maintains study procedures and safety of patients for the duration of their participation.
