In 2015, Mario graduated in Medicine and Surgery in “La Sapienza, University of Rome”, summa cum laude. While he was a medical student, Mario was an attendant in different medical departments (ENT, maxillofacial surgery and radiology). Between 2014 and 2015, he did an internship in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and he enhanced his knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injury patients. In 2016, he moved to the United Kingdom and he applied for a PhD position to enhance the care on these patients.
Dr Mario Forcione currently works at the National Institute for Health Research Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (NIHR SRMRC), University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. Mario is doing a PhD on the clinical applications of a
non-invasive imaging device on traumatic brain injury patients within the project “Brain injury and trauma monitoring using advanced photonics” (BitMap), Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions, Horizon 2020).
