Karen gained her PhD in 1991, in the field of immuno-parasitology at the National Institute for Medical Research, London. She then spent 18 years as an immunologist working in tropical medicine (Marseille, Oxford) and then leukaemia/bone marrow transplantation (Birmingham). Karen joined the R&D department at UHBFT in 2009 as a clinical research grant co-ordinator facilitating grant submissions, including the NIHR SRMRC application, before she took up the programme manager position in 2011.
Karen is the Programme Manager for the NIHR SRMRC and is responsible for the operational delivery/co-ordination and management of the Centre.
