Alison has a strong research profile. She has >£1 million current research funding, >100 publications in high impact journals including; BMJ, PLoS One, Spine, European Spine Journal, BMJ Open, Trials, BMC Musculoskeletal, Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, British Journal of Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Science and Practice. She has given multiple invited keynote presentations at prestigious international conferences; and >100 research conference presentations.
Alison has worked within education since 1993 with a focus in research to and teaching in the specialist areas of musculoskeletal rehabilitation, manipulative physiotherapy, musculoskeletal trauma and sports medicine. Alison’s research is at the forefront of enhancing our understanding of the assessment and management of musculoskeletal and spinal pain disorders to inform precision rehabilitation. Alison’s involvement in teaching, learning and supervision encompasses the subject areas of musculoskeletal physiotherapy, manipulative therapy, sports medicine, evidence based practice, clinical reasoning, and research methods. Her involvement is focused to the postgraduate programmes, particularly teaching and supervision on the MRes Spinal Pain, MSc Advanced Manipulative Physiotherapy, MSc Exercise and Sports Medicine (Football) and supervising MSc, MRes and PhD students.
Alison has been awarded a fellowship of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, a fellowship of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and Honorary membership of the OMT Espana Terapia Manual Ortopedica for her national and international contribution to musculoskeletal physiotherapy research and education. Alison chairs the Standards Committee of the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists, is Associate Editor for BMC Musculoskeletal and PLoS One, is on the Editorial Board of the Musculoskeletal Science and Practice journal, and joint lead of a lumbar spine research collaboration with the English Institute of Sport. She also sits on the strategic Technical Advisory Group of the English Institute of Sport and works in partnership with The Football Association to deliver the MSc Exercise and Sports Medicine (Football) programme.
