Alex qualified as a registered nurse in 2013 and has since worked in a variety of specialities. In 2016 she started working in research and then joined the SRMRC team in 2021. Alex is passionate about research and how the research of today could ultimately help save lives tomorrow. Without participation in research we cannot drive change to ensure we provide better, evidence-based healthcare.
As a research sister, Alex looks after patients recruited to research studies, ensuring that their safety and wellbeing is maintained, and that study procedures are carried out according to study protocols. Alex also plays an important part in recruiting patients, including screening, ensuring eligibility is confirmed, consenting patients, and collecting data.
All the team are allocated “in charge” shifts, meaning the nurses take it turns to look after staffing and delegating tasks to colleagues, as well as ensuring prioritised tasks are completed and Good Clinical Practice is followed at all times. Carrying the on-call mobile is also an essential part of being in-charge, as this is the main contact for any patient, relative, healthcare professional, trial centre or colleagues. This means that the team are contactable 24/7 – ensuring great patient care, recruitment at any time and help to our colleagues looking after the patients.
