A poster setting out the strategies behind the SRMRC’s successful trials management team has been displayed at a national conference in Birmingham.
The poster explained the demands of recruiting patients to trauma trials, particularly the fact that many patients eligible for trials are brought to hospital outside of normal working hours.
As a result, the team adopted working patterns to provide cover 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Other strategies included constructive engagement with the Emergency Department and Critical Care, as well as recruitment of nurses with specialist critical care skills.
The poster was displayed at the 9th Annual Clinical Research Facility Network Conference at the University of Birmingham.
One of the poster’s authors, SRMRC Senior Research Nurse Aisling Clarkson, said the poster showed the importance of sharing the lessons being learned at SRMRC: “The poster is another part of our efforts to share what we are learning here from a nursing team point of view.
“We have already spoken at other conferences, describing what we are doing here, and there is a lot of interest from other centres in how they can adopt some of the measures we have taken to improve our recruitment to trauma trials.”
