Nursing team come close at Nursing Times Awards

The shortlisted research nursing team from Birmingham attended the Nursing Times Awards earlier this month for a night of celebrating the very best in nursing.

The team from University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHBFT) were shortlisted in the Clinical Research Nursing category but narrowly missed out to Mid Essex Hospital Services Trust who claimed the award.

The team from Birmingham entered with the title ‘Trauma is not nine to five – so neither are our nurses’. As the title suggests the team are a 24/7 trauma team who are able to recruit to the clinical trials they run out of the NIHR Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC) no matter the time or day.

The awards, held at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London, were teeming with the very best nursing has to offer. With 23 categories the list of exceptional nursing achievements was extensive and inspiring.

Sister Amy Bamford, Senior Research Sister at UHBFT was there on the night alongside her team: “It was a wonderful evening and a privilege to attend. To be shortlisted was such an exciting thing for me and my team and although we didn’t win I am so proud of them as I see how hard they work and they fully deserved to be shortlisted.

“Congratulations to Mid Essex Hospital Services Trust – they have done great work merging their oncology research, generic research and research and development teams together – worthy winners indeed.”

The night also honoured the 11 trusts involved in providing a response to the London and Manchester terror attacks.
