Members of the NIHR SRMRC team presented their work at an event led by the UK government’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) on Thursday 23rd October 2014.
The Medical Sciences Showcase Event, which took place at the IET in Birmingham, gave the team the opportunity to promote the fantastic research being conducted by the NIHR SRMRC and to learn about the various other aspects of military research.
Professor Tony Belli presented an overview of the centre, whilst other team members displayed the latest results from their research as part of a poster exhibition. Former director of the centre Professor Sir Keith Porter also presented on the challenges for research in military and civilian trauma. Other speakers included Dr John Robertson, Dr Sarah Watts, Dr Emrys Kirkman, and Mr Neal Smith from the DSTL, alongside Defence Professor GP Group Captain Richard Withnall.
Researcher Fenella Halstead, who is based within the ‘Microbiology’ theme of the NIHR SRMRC said, “The event provided the team a great opportunity to present our work, and importantly, learn about other areas of military research, and the challenges that are faced within these”.
