Good News for SRMRC Staff

We’ve had some amazing news about our staff in the last few months!

Firstly, NIHR SRMRC director, Professor Tony Belli, has been appointed as an NIHR Senior Investigator in this year’s awards after being selected on the advice of an international panel of experts. NIHR Senior Investigatorships are among the most prestigious awards given to researchers in the United Kingdom and awardees often act as important advisers to the Department of Health and Social Care and the Chief Scientific Adviser.

Secondly, previous NIHR SRMRC Research Fellow, Dr Josh Quick, has been awarded a prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship. The award aims to help drive new, promising researchers to answer important questions for the future. Josh has worked with Professor Nick Loman within the SRMRC for a number of years undertaking a project entitled “Culture-independent, sequence-based pathogen diagnostics: in the field and by the bedside” which aims to improve the care of patients with meningitis and encephalitis by applying cutting-edge genome sequencing technology to diagnose infections much more quickly than traditional methods. In his new project, OneAMR, Josh will use single-cell technology to improve the prediction of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) directly from clinical samples.
